Welcome to Horizon Japan: Forza Horizon 6 Delivers the Racing Game Fans Have Wanted for Years

Now the streets are open for all. Forza Horizon 6 is finally here for Xbox Series X/S, PC and Xbox Game Pass after years of rumors and endless speculation. This time Playground Games brings players to an electrifying open world version of Japan. It has neon lit cities, curvy mountain roads and some of the most realistic environments the franchise has ever seen.

Initial response has been overwhelming. The game opened with a respectable 92 Metacritic rating and is already in the highest rated 2026 games by a wide margin. If there's one thing that seems to set this launch apart from the others is the extent to which it's larger and more ambitious than previous Horizon releases.

Japan Finally Arrives in Horizon

For years, the fans have wanted this to be Japan and it's not disappointing. The world in the series is bigger, denser, and has more variation than anything the series have tried before.

Players start in a lively recreation of Tokyo, with billboards, bustling streets, superhighways and a never ending nighttime atmosphere. Running about in neon lights and dodging cars is a very different thing to playing in deserts, forests and countryside maps like the previous ones, and this really adds to the game's energy.

The country's roads outside the city turn into the steep Japanese touge passes. The downhill races are very close and involve lots of drifting, braking and driving with accuracy. Racing through foggy mountain curves becomes some of the most thrilling parts of the game in no time.

A Massive Car List and Deeper Customization

At launch, Forza Horizon 6 includes more than 550 real world vehicles spanning street cars, hypercars, classic icons, off road builds and track focused machines. A new performance focused “R Class” category has also been introduced, giving competitive players more specialized tuning options.

Customization has received some of the biggest upgrades in the series so far.

For the first time, players can place custom decals directly onto vehicle windows, opening up entirely new livery possibilities for creators. The game also introduces the “Yashiki House,” a personal property system where players can unlock and customize their own open world garage space. Decorations, layouts, and showcase areas can all be modified and shared with friends online.

The popular EventLab system has evolved into “Horizon CoLab,” allowing players to build races, stunt parks, ramps, and custom challenges together in real time during multiplayer sessions.

Driving Feels More Detailed Than Ever

Under the surface, the handling system has been upgraded with several smaller changes that add up quickly once you start driving.

Cars now show visible cosmetic tire wear during long races and extended drifting sessions. Steering animations have also been expanded for wheel users, supporting up to 540 degrees of rotation for a more natural driving experience.

Accessibility options have also seen major improvements. A new High Contrast mode gives visually impaired players far more control over menus, UI visibility, and environmental readability, helping more players experience the game comfortably.

Available Right Now

Racing begins right away for players of the Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass. It's also exciting to see that Forza Horizon 6 will be coming to PlayStation 5 later this year.. Xbox Game Studios is also confirming that the title will be available on the console too.

It's been years in the making and now we have Horizon Japan and already it is one of the best racing games of this generation.
