Is the Verity Mod Real? The One in the Videos Isn’t. These Two Are

The Verity mod in ThatMob's videos is not real — it was a scripted horror film made inside Minecraft, and it was never something you could download. But since then, official versions have been made with ThatMob's involvement, and those are real: Verity JE for Java Edition and Verity BE for Bedrock, both on CurseForge, with more than 13 million downloads between them.

So the honest answer to "is Verity real?" is: the one in the videos isn't, the official adaptations are, and a lot of what sits in between is not worth installing. Here is how to tell them apart, and one thing about both official versions that most guides leave out: they send what you type to an online AI.

Three things share one name

Download counts are CurseForge's totals as of 30 October 2026, and they change daily.

Where Verity came from

Verity started as a horror series by the YouTuber ThatMob, filmed like a modded Let's Play: a package arrives, a floating yellow sphere offers to help, and things go wrong from there. It looked exactly like gameplay of a mod, and viewers did what viewers do — went looking for the download.

There wasn't one. The series was a scripted short film, built with editing and sound design, and as Sportskeeda and others reported at the time, ThatMob described it that way rather than as a mod. In June 2026, BisectHosting's explainer put it plainly: "There is no official Verity available to download."

That stopped being true later in the year, which is where the confusion comes from.

The official versions

Both official projects live on CurseForge, and both list ThatMob's account (thatmobyt) as a project member.

Verity JE is published by VarmiteYT. Its page describes it as an official adaptation of ThatMob's "Something" series, made with the creator's permission. It adds Verity and his box, a monster called the Demon, extreme darkness and a flashlight. The main file at the time of writing is version 6.0.0 for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge, dated 23 October 2026; there is also a NeoForge build for 1.21.1. It does not support the current 26.x versions.

Verity BE (Official) is the Bedrock add-on. It needs Minecraft Bedrock 26.30, with Beta APIs switched on under Experimental toggles and cheats enabled. Its latest file at the time of writing is v4.2.3, dated 18 October 2026.

There is also a separate, unofficial Bedrock tribute by PnTMC, featured on CurseForge's blog in August. It is a different project from the official one, so check which page you are on.

Both official versions send what you type online

This is the part to know before installing either.

Verity talks back. It answers what you type in chat, and it does that with a large language model — the same kind of AI as a chatbot — running on a server somewhere, not on your PC or console.

Verity JE's page says it "USES LLMs (Large Language Models) to function, meaning that additional setups are REQUIRED," and links a setup tutorial. In other words, extra configuration is needed before Verity can talk at all.

Verity BE goes further. Its setup asks you to run a command that connects your game's script debugger to a remote server run by the add-on's makers. That is how your chat reaches their AI — and the page is open that "Verity's AI costs real money to run," asking for donations to keep it going.

None of this means the add-on is malicious. It does mean three practical things:

  • What you type to Verity leaves your device and goes to a server you do not control. Do not type anything personal.
  • A debugger connection is built to let the other end inspect and control scripts in your world. Use Verity BE in a separate world, not the one you have spent a year building.
  • Verity stops talking if the server does. An add-on whose main feature depends on someone else paying for an AI service can stop working without warning.

For children playing, that is worth a parent knowing about before they install it.

Modpacks and download sites

Search for Verity and you will find dozens of modpacks and several websites with "Verity" in their name offering downloads.

The modpacks are mostly fine — they are collections built around Verity JE. VerityCraft, with about 1.2 million downloads, is a Forge 1.20.1 pack that says on its own page it "requires Verity to be configured correctly before you start playing." Everything about the AI setup above still applies.

The websites are a different matter. A site with Verity in its name is not the official project. The official downloads are the two CurseForge pages, and that is the only place we would install from. If a site offers an .exe, a "launcher," or an APK for phones, close it.

Verity: quick answers

Is the Verity mod real? The one in ThatMob's videos is not — it was a scripted film. Official versions made since, Verity JE and Verity BE, are real and downloadable on CurseForge.

Who made Verity? ThatMob created the character and the series. Verity JE is published by VarmiteYT, and the official Bedrock add-on by its own team; both list ThatMob as a project member.

Does Verity work on the latest Minecraft? The Bedrock add-on needs Bedrock 26.30. The Java mod runs on 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, not on the current 26.x versions.

Is Verity safe? The official CurseForge versions are the safe place to start, but both send what you type to an online AI, and the Bedrock version connects your game to the makers' server. Use a separate world and don't share personal information.

Does Verity work offline? Not its main feature. Its conversations depend on an online AI service.

Is there a Verity mod for phones? Verity BE is a Bedrock add-on installed from an .mcaddon file, which works on Android, iPhone and Windows; consoles cannot import add-on files directly. Avoid standalone "Verity" apps and APKs — those are not the official project.

The short version

  • ThatMob's Verity was a scripted film, not a mod. There was nothing to download from the videos.
  • Official versions now exist: Verity JE (Java, 1.20.1/1.21.1) and Verity BE (Bedrock 26.30), both on CurseForge, both listing ThatMob as a member — over 13 million downloads combined.
  • Both send your chat to an online AI. The Bedrock version also connects your game's script debugger to the makers' server.
  • Install only from the two CurseForge pages, use a separate world, and never type personal information to Verity.
  • Skip sites, apps and launchers that just use the name.
