Epic Games stunned the entire gaming community by the first official Unreal Engine 6 teaser from the Rocket League Championship Series Paris Major. In a surprising twist, Epic did not show its flagship game 'Fortnite' but instead demonstrated the next generation of its development technology. Rather, the developer shone the spotlight on Rocket League and revealed it to the public with a major overhaul, the first time the developer has made the engine and its new purple logo public.
This is no small change for the Rocket League community. The hit vehicular soccer game has been around since it was first released 11 years ago and is powered by the nearly 20 year old Unreal Engine 3. Psyonix is also bypassing both Unreal Engine 4 and the Unreal Engine 5, that is going directly to the newly announced tech. The teaser took the form of a minute long video, with real timing footage of the car leaping through a jaw droppingly detailed stadium, then morphing into a menu for the garage of high end ray tracing, highly realistic paint finishes and incredibly detailed reflections.

Unreal Engine 5 has been widely used among the studios with some big names, but it's also been criticized by many gamers for the lack of optimization and stuttering on existing graphics cards and CPUs. Initial developer notes show that Unreal Engine 6 will be heavily focused on accurate multi threaded data streaming and simulation cracking the single core CPU problem that had been a challenge for earlier versions.
